What title and description show up for your page in Google search results is decided by the <title> and meta description tags.
The key tags to check
<title> (the blue link text in results, usually shown up to 50โ60 characters by Google), meta description (the gray summary line below it, usually 150โ160 characters), and meta robots (index/noindex, follow/nofollow, controlling whether the page gets indexed) are the essentials.
What happens past the character limit
A title that's too long gets truncated with "..." in the middle, or Google may substitute its own auto-generated title based on the page content instead. A description that's too long can get cut off before the key sentence.
Auditing many pages at once
A basic SEO check is confirming every page's title and description are unique, not duplicated across the site โ reusing the same copy on multiple pages makes it harder for search engines to tell the pages apart.
